We live in amazing times in the high-performance world, with so many different insanely fast street cars out there. What used to be considered pure fantasy when it came to how quickly a street car could cover the quarter-mile has become reality these days. Nothing proved this fact more than a pair of Lamborghinis at the GTR World Cup laying down side-by-side 7-second passes.
When Italian luxury sports car manufacturer Lamborghini released its Huracán, it was touted as an amazing all-around vehicle that provided a visceral driving experience. You wouldn’t find anything in the car’s brochure about its drag racing potential, but that has never stopped gearheads from making a car into a quarter-mile warrior. Companies like Underground Racing, AMS, and others have turned average Huracáns into 1,500 horsepower Italian stallions.
The GTR World Cup that’s contested at Bradenton Motorsports Park draws in not only the quickest Nissan GT-Rs in the world, but tons of other rowdy exotic vehicles that compete in the DCT transmission classes. You’ll see all kinds of killer Audis, McClarens, and of course Lamborghinis that can run deep into the single-digit e.t. zone at this event.
In this video from Drag Racing and Car Stuff, Jordan Martin pilots the 2015 Alpha Omega Huracán that was built by AMS Performance. The first pass doesn’t go as planned when Huracán experiences some catastrophic transmission issues. AMS Performance thrashed on the Lambo to get it ready for the first round, where it lined up against another stunning Huracán. Martin ended up winning the round with a 7.74 to a 7.94 for the driver in the other lane. This was the first time in history two Lamborghinis ran in the 7-second range side-by-side. It’s really impressive to see such high-end sports cars laying down these big numbers at the track.
