There’s a lot that can happen during a drag race between the christmas tree and the finish line. Even when the race is over, a driver must stay on high alert in the shutdown area, because there are still plenty of bad things that can happen.
Jamond Haug is an experienced racer and has driven the Homewrecker Motorsports Studebaker known as “The Frigg” for many a years. The Studebaker is a fan favorite, thanks to its unique look and nasty screw-supercharged engine package that makes plenty of noise every time Haug smashes the loud pedal. The Frigg has competed in some of the biggest no-prep races in the country and has won plenty of rounds.
Haug has wheeled The Frigg out of some dicey situations in the past, but the Big Tire finals at Ozark Raceway Park last weekend presented him with a situation that he had no control over. The Frigg had just defeated Steve Pickett and his Chevelle without any issues, but things got ugly at the top end after the race was finished.
The throttle hung on Pickett’s Chevelle, causing him to lose control in the shutdown area. Unfortunately, Pickett smashed into Haug at a high rate of speed, forcing him into the guardrail with an excessive amount of force. Things went from bad to worse for Haug as the Studebaker was impaled on the guardrail and began to violently roll and catch fire. Thankfully, the safety gear employed by both drivers did its job and they were able to walk away from this scary crash. Check out this footage from Urban Hillbilly Videos that shows the crash and its aftermath.
