ORTC planning to hold 8-car, invitation only $5k Drag Radial event

The Duck is at it again.  Looking to follow up on the absolute rousing success of The Night The Lights Went Out in Georgia back in February, Donald Long, the undisputed king (well actually he prefers to be called the Mayor) of drag radial race promoting has announced his intentions for yet another event that should cause a lot of commotion.

Long is on the lookout for eight of the most badass radial tire racers in all the land for an invitation only, eight car field that will race for a $5,000 winners purse and is completely free to enter.  The location appears to have already been determined and possibly is partially behind the idea for the race, but is being withheld at this time for unknown reasons.  Ditto for the date.

A casting call of sorts for racers interested in and up to the challenge of competing in such an event has been put out.  Radial tire hitters “Mustang Mike” Modeste and Will Stevenson have already been locked into the show, leaving six spots and possibly two additional alternate spots in case of breakage.  If you’re going to run a race consisting of the crème of the crop on radial tires, you’d have to mention the likes of David Wolfe, Big Daddy, Alex Vrettos, David Hance, Paul Major, Dave Hinzman, Steve Jackson, Mel Nelson, Rickie Stine, and others.  It isn’t often – or ever – you see a field consisting of the top hitters in the country all in one place at the same time, and if  Donald can pull it off, it’ll be one for the ages.

While the purse for this race isn’t particularly high relative to the $20,000 put out for February’s Radial vs. the World race, what it does offer is the chance to compete against the best of the best on what should be a well-watched stage.
