Prototype Neal Chance Converter Powers Marinis To X275 Record

The record books in the wildly popular X275 eliminator have been under barrage this fall, being incrementally lowered a hundredth here and a thousandth there, at tracks from Texas clear to Maryland and every stop in between. As soon as one competitor stakes their claim to it, another rises to the challenge a week later and steals the coveted spot atop the charts away. And despite the tireless efforts of John Sears and all those behind the X275 class to reign the performance levels in, the racers just keep forging on with the limited tire and rules structure to lay down incredible numbers.

dean1Just days after Shane Fisher rocked his way to a new 4.525-second record elapsed time in his all-black Fox body Mustang down in Texas the North Star Dragway, perennial favorite Dean Marinis inched the class a little bit closer to the 4.40’s while competing at the Maryland International Raceway in his nitrous-fed Mustang, going 4.522 at 158.07 MPH.

Marinis, a many-time national record holder and big-time race winner in X275, was 1.097 to sixty feet and 2.969 to half track, and much of that performance is owed to the protoype converter in the car from Neal Chance Racing Converters. On subsequent runs, Mean Dean was 1.075, 1.08, and 1.09 to the sixty foot marker, proving that there’s even more potential out there.

Marinis and company have been using the new prototype converter, which the Neal Chance folks are calling the very future of the X275 class, for a handful of weeks, and the results truly speak for themselves. We’ll be catching up with the NCRC gang at the upcoming PRI Show in Indianapolis, where we’ll hopefully be able to coax some more information out of them on this new converter that’s certainly going to help set the class on its head in 2014.
