Salinas, driving her 5.1-second, 280 mph nitro-burning Scrappers Racing A/Fuel Dragster, went airborne past the 1/8-mile mark and somersaulted over the guardrail, tumbling to a stop in the grass along the shutdown area. Salinas reportedly climbed from the dragster under her own power and was evaluated on the scene by medical personnel.
Entering the ill-fated final session, Salinas was qualified atop the 18-car field with a 5.177 at 279.50 mph. Karen Stalba, who was in the opposing lane as Salinas crashed, overtook her with a last-ditch 5.172.
