With the craze of Street Outlaws sweeping the nation, one of the hottest forms of drag racing is No Prep. Numerous tracks have began hosting No Prep events including Texas Raceway (Kennedale, TX), Thunder Valley Raceway Park (Noble, OK), Ben Bruce Memorial Airpark Raceway (Evadale, TX) and many more. Yes, it’s not the same as “street racing” but No Prep racing at the track is a safer alternative with great challenges to harness all the horsepower and torque to the ground with limited traction assistance.
Most ‘No Prep’ races are free reign; anything is legal as long as it meets the class rules, passes technical inspection and then it’s game on.
A familiar sight at these events are the Big Tire and Small Tire classes where large amounts of money are up for grabs, usually in a winner-take-all format. Almost a fixture at these style events, tracks have brought in at least one (sometimes more) of the television superstars to run in the event themselves – some even enter the race on their own. Face it, even though the stars of Street Outlaws are on television, they are fierce racers and competitors, just like we all are.
The world of No Prep Drag Racing is one of the most on the edge of your seat, never know what is going to happen, brands of motorsports. One car could be all over the track, appearing as if the driver is on an ice skating rink while the next car in the staging lanes could go straight on the rear bumper. Just like drag radial racing, no prep racing is all about power management and a smooth application of that horsepower.
Most tuners and drivers will make smooth curves in the boost/nitrous/timing controllers and keep the power curves as smooth as possible – the longer the rear tires stay securely planted, the more horsepower and torque that is being transferred to the racing surface and the faster you are moving down the track.
No Prep is an exact definition of power management and it’s sweeping the nation as one of the most rapidly growing attractions in drag racing.
