There is nothing cooler than a classic Mopar, unless it is a classic Mopar that has a big cubic inch motor and two giant turbos. Brian Hicks’ 1974 Challenger is all of these and a whole lot more.
Originally the Challenger was Chrysler’s answer to Ford and GM’s pony car offerings. Back in the 1970’s you could pick up a Challenger with all kinds of combos from a little 225 cubic inch slant 6 all the way up to the classic 426 V8 Hemi.
Brian Hicks has owned this particular car for over twenty years, and has made it his goal to make it quicker and faster each season. Brian campaigns this car all across the United States at some of the biggest Outlaw 10.5 events and in the NMCA Super Street 10.5W division. The car is powered by a monstrous 526 cubic inch Hemi and sports two big Precision snails while the shifting duties are handled by a Performance Racing Transmissions unit. All of this power is put down to a set of Mickey Thompson 10.5w tires.
The team has been working on their combo and it shows. Getting the car to hook during a recent outing at the Byron Dragway led to a 1.10 60’ and a blistering 4.33 at over 176 MPH. This video shows just how beautiful this car is to look at, and how much of a handful it is to drive. Those wheelie bars are getting workout as this angry sounding Challenger tries to do a back flip.
