Chase Beverly had the kind of weekend every racer fears when his Top Dragster got into its own fluid and nearly hit opponent Camrie Caruso during the third round of qualifying at the PDRA East Coast Nationals. Beverly’s dragster became an unguided missile as it careened down the racing surface of South Carolina’s Darlington Dragway after this scary series of events began.
Beverly is an experienced racer who had to use all of his skills when the freeze plug came out of the motor and spewed water under the rear tires, sending his dragster hard to the right toward Caruso in the other lane.
As the dragster shot across the track, Beverly was able to reel the car in and keep it from collecting Caruso before more fluid got under the tires and caused him to completely lose control. Beverly’s dragster began to barrel roll down the track, hitting the wall and finally coming to a rest on its wheels past the eighth-mile mark. Thankfully, Beverly was uninjured in this freak accident that could have been much worse if it wasn’t for his great driving.
