It’s certainly been no secret on the internet, as the still images, aftermath videos, and even the accounts from those involved have been previously made public, but not until Monday night on Discovery did the world see the incident that unfolded between Jonathan Day — better known as JJ Da Boss — and his wife, Tricia, on the closed set of “Street Outlaws: America’s List.”
Occurring in early January at a location in south Texas, JJ and Tricia were matched up in their familiar Chevy II’s — JJ in ”Hummingbird” and Tricia in “ZipTie” — and Tricia had just taken the win in a tight race when, according to JJ, a blow-off tube or oil line came loose, igniting a fire and sending his car careening into the corner of his wife’s at high speed. The contact sent Hummingbird one way, tumbling into the ditch, while Tricia turned the other way and took the more serious impact, striking a production vehicle parked off to the side of the road well beyond the finish line.
As JJ reported via social media in the hours and days following the crash, both he and Tricia were transported to a local hospital, where Tricia was treated for hip injuries resulting from the incredible impact she took. JJ, for his part, suffered burns to his face and hands from the fire that entered the cockpit, but as you will see in coming episodes in the series, he didn’t let the injuries to himself or his car slow him down.
