Many will recall John Andrade Jr. as one of the original faces on the Discovery Channel’s Street Outlaws reality program, but it’s been quite a while since we’ve seen the Oklahoma native and his Oldsmobile known as “The Cutty” on the small screen. But that doesn’t mean he hasn’t been racing.
Since his last appearance on the show, the Cutlass has undergone a sizable transformation, first being converted from a 406-inch small-block Chevrolet with nitrous to a 408-inch mill with a 94mm turbocharger. A small-tire car early on, it’s also been turned into a big-tire car to take on the heavy hitters in the street and no prep game. And that’s precisely what Andrade has done, tackling no prep and grudge races at events around the country.
But Andrade got a little more than he bargained for this weekend at the No Prep Mayhem event at the Kansas International Dragway, when he got loose on the slick surface and nosed the Cutty into the guardrail. Andrade was racing alongside eventual winner Chuck Parker and his brand new ’55 Chevy when he started to spin the tires near the 200 foot mark. Despite locking up the brakes, he couldn’t quite stop the car before striking the steel barrier. Luckily, the damage was fairly minimal, crushing in the corner of the fiberglass front end and the turbo charge pipe underneath. The always-positive Andrade, however, was still all smiles after surveying the damage, sharing that he’d be making swift repairs to get the Cutty back on track for its full schedule of planned races in 2016.
