Radial tire racing has been growing by leaps and bounds globally thanks to the elapsed times, speeds, and the totally unpredictable nature of the cars. The harder racers push their cars the greater probability of a potential record-breaking pass or epic level carnage.
Vince Morabito campaigns a Z28 Camaro packing some LSX power that puts up big numbers and in this video puts down even bigger wheel stands. The truly nasty ASPA Outlaw Radial class car in this video is packing some serious punch under the hood. Powering the bumper-eating Camaro is a 427 cubic inch GM C8 engine with a Callies crank, Diamond Pistons, and Dryer rods living inside. The Dailey dry sump oil system keeps the lubrication flowing to the engine and a massive 106mm Precision turbo delivers the boost. A Carl Rossler-built two-speed Powerglide takes the power and transfers it to a Strange Engineering rear end filled with 40 spline axles. This combo has pushed the red rocket to a best quarter mile pass of 7.62 at 190 mph.
After some revisions to the combo and the addition of a new boost controller, this radial tire wearing F-body made its way back to the dragstrip in the land down under. Trying to dial in a big power radial tire car on a tight track can be a tricky task and this video from FullBoost demonstrates those challenges. On the first hit, the Camaro tries to climb the tire and makes a move towards the center line. On the next hit things get even more hairy as the Z28 goes wheels-up and straight to the bumper even with the driver-turned-pilot trying to pedal the car to keep it under control.
