One of the bench marks for performance cars is how fast can it run in the quarter mile. It doesn’t matter the brand, make, or model everybody wants to know how fast it can go. Every car guy loves to see how fast they can really push their ride, including Porsche owners. EKanoo Racing already has the record for a Supra in the quarter mile, so why not see what your twin turbo 997 can do? Wait, your twin turbo 997 is not fast enough, how about have Evolution Motorsports build a nasty 3.8L motor? That is exactly what happened and lead to a new record for a Porsche 997 with a Tiptronic transmission.
The turbo 997 was fist unveiled in 2006 at the Geneva Motor Show. The car was introduced with LED turn signals attached to the air intakes and fog lamps that had new locations in the bumpers. In stock form the motor put out 470 horsepower and 460 pounds of torque from the factory. The stock BorgWarner turbos used variable turbo geometry to help reduce boost lag and help remove back pressure at the higher RPMs. With the stock Tiptronic transmission the 997 is able to go from 0-60 in a skimpy 3.2 seconds.
All of that performance in a stock car that is known for being a handling beast is impressive. If you are the crew at EKanoo racing the idea of a stock 997 is just not acceptable. The 997 in their possession has been worked over and set up to do some serious damage at the track. The stock 3.8L motor was worked over by Evolution Motorsports, who is known for modifying anything Porsche related. A set of GT35 turbos were brought on board to help fill the 3.8L motor with plenty of boosted fun. With a full tank of C16 race gas the EKanoo 997 ran 9.77 at 150 mph in the quarter with a 1.6 60’ and 6.49 1/8th mile.
