Hot Rod Drag Week is known for pushing participants and their rides to the limits, but it also brings out some truly interesting creations. Sure, you get to see the Unlimited Class freak show with street-driven, five-second Pro Mods, but the entrants in the other classes can be just as head-turning. One competitor, Robert Berry, brought out his attention-grabbing diesel powered 1945 Chevy rat rod truck that was arguably one of the vent’s wildest creations. Berry recently had added a second turbocharger added to the mix for more boosted fun, making his one-of-a-kind pickup eve more intriguing to look over and to watch.

The old Chevrolet is actually called “Burnie” because it caught on fire during its building phase a few times. Berry and his truck compete in the popular Street Machine Eliminator class, where you see a variety of fast street cars. This year for Drag Week, Berry made some changes to the 24-valve Dodge engine, running a compound turbo setup that’s making about whopping 65 pounds of boost at full tilt.

This was Berry’s first time out with Burnie after his addition of the second turbo, and things didn’t quite go as planned. On the first pass during the initial day of Drag Week, the truck violently blew the intercooler pipe off because Berry didn’t have time to v-band the hard parts together.

On the next pass, after some repairs were made, the truck made a healthy 70 pounds of boost and went the entire 1,320 feet under power, running a 10.66. At the end of the week, Berry was able to secure a respectable 11.002-second average, and carded a new personal best of 10.64 at 121 mph.
