As any fan of the popular Discovery Channel program Street Outlaws surely knows by now, former Oklahoma City street racing king “Daddy Dave” Comstock has been working tirelessly to complete an all-new race car — a 1963 Chevy II — that will make its competitive debut on the show during an upcoming season.
As we’ve reported in recent updates on Comstock’s new chariot, the project has been progressing right along, but now, it’s officially reached the finish line. And there’s video to document it, as Comstock put his first shakedown runs on the new car at the Thunder Valley Raceway Park just south of OKC.
Videographer Blake Shipman was on hand at Thunder Valley to capture the debut of the highly-anticipated new car that’s sure to challenge for the top spot on OKC’s “Top 10 List” in the future. The car, of course, will have big shoes to fill, as it follows the famed “Sonoma” pickup truck that held the top spot over the course of multiple seasons on the reality television show. The video serves as merely a teaser to the public debut of the car, and as such, no complete runs are shown.
Like the Sonoma, the Chevy II will be motivated by a nitrous oxide-assisted big block, measuring 632 cubic inches and built by noted engine man Taylor Lastor of TRE Racing Engines. Nitrous Express will supply the three-stage nitrous setup, while a FuelTech combo will handle the fuel system and engine management system.
