Drag racing at its quickest and fastest levels is a delicate balance of control and brute power. When you’re able to master the balance of these two, beautiful things happen, big numbers go up on the board, and rounds are won. When things go wrong, you ‘re headed home early and perhaps even tearing up some parts. When things go REALLY wrong, though, the car might be crossing the finish line upside down and on fire. Or something to that effect.
Madman Productions recently caught on film at the APSA Shootout at Sydney Dragway in Australia what can happen when you have that REALLY bad day.
The “Godfather” Sam Sadek in his RX3 went from a killer hit to a terrifying accident in the blink of an eye at Sydney. Recently Sam and his Pac Performance powered RX3 laid down a stout 6.98 at 195 mph that was good enough to make the Godfather and his 20B-powered RX3 the quickest RX3 in the southern hemisphere. Needless to say, this short wheelbased ride is as impressive as it is exciting.
On the final pass of the Shootout, Sadek and his team put the big boy tuneup in the RX3 and set the car on kill. The car left shooting some killer flames as always and looked to be on another solid six-second pass when, at about the 1,000 foot mark, things took a turn for the worst. A good amount of fluid appears to get under the tires from some form of engine failure, and quickly, the car makes a hard right and Sam loses the handle on the car, as it makes a violent left, goes on its side, and ends up in the wall. Eventually the car comes back across the track and stops. At the end of the video you can see the driver’s door swing open and Sam emerges from the car under his own power. And as any true racer would, Sam and the Godfather team have already begun tearing the car down to have it repaired and ready for battle again.
