Doorslammer racing vet Tim Savell walked away from a scary crash at the Redemption 5.0 No Prep event held in Texas over the weekend that left his Bankston Boyz Racing Pro Nitrous-style Dodge Stratus, known as Kong, a bit worse for wear.

Savell is a very experienced driver, havng competed with the ADRL, PDRA, and other various organizations, along with Big Tire No Prep and the NMCA’s new Xtreme Pro Mod class. The Terry, Mississippi, native is currently number one in the NMCA points and won the Big Tire class in a local No Prep event in Mena, Mississippi and was looking toward the prize at one of the largest No Prep races ever setup in the great state of Texas. Event promoter Shannon Morgan, from the esteemed Morgan & Sons Racing Engines, held her usual pre-race driver’s meeting and explained to the racers to not display any hero antics, as No Prep surfaces can be extremely unforgiving.

Savell was poised as a favorite to win the Big Tire class, taking out two heavy hitters in the first rounds of eliminations. Savell is no stranger to No Prep events, as he has knocked out some of the heaviest hitters in the country. Savell succesfully advanced to the third round of the Big Tire class as was lined up against formidable opponent Cody James in a Pro Mod Corvette, “Warpath”, out of West Texas.

When the tree flashed green, James reacted quickly and Savell tried to reel him. At mid-track Savell got loose and tried to correct the car to push it back past James to a win. In the shutdown area, the car hooked right, narrowly missing James and slammed into the metal guardrail. The car ricocheted to the left, where it hit the wall again and ultimately rocketed into field beyond the guardrail, smashing through the barrier and into a hay bale.

The emergency crew was on the scene within seconds and tended to Savell, who walked away banged up and with a bruised ego. It was a horrific scene to bare witness to, but the resilient driver and his formidable team will no doubt be back from this incident.
