Being the fastest at anything in drag racing will always put a giant target on your back. You have to bring your A-game and have the big boy tune-up in the car because every car you line up against will be throwing everything they have at you.
Josean Roman owns the world’s fastest S2000 that is driven, wrenched on, and tuned by Pepo Besosa that recently won the Quick 32 class at the 2014 Dragmaina event at Salinas Speedway in Puerto Rico. The team showed up and pulled off every racers dream by setting records and winning the whole event.
This isn’t your average gas-sipping Honda, as you can imagine — this little monster makes its steam via a four-cylinder F22C Race long block that puts down 1,200 horses to the wheels and gets boost from a Precision Billet Turbo. Besosa shifts the car with a G-Force clutchless tranny each pass. The Red Star Motoring-built S2000 earned the title of world’s fastest by running a blistering 7.32 at 192 MPH at Maryland International Raceway during the Import vs Domestic World Cup in the Hot Rod vs X275 class.
The Dragmania event at Puerto Rico’s Salinas Speedway brings out some of the best import race cars in the world. Roman and Besosa pulled the S2000 off the trailer and set the tone by ripping off a 7.45 at 186 on their first pass to set a track record. After that they went into bracket car mode, laying down a series of 7.45’s and even a 7.44 after being forced to get totally out of it as the car drifted towards the center line. In the finals Besosa pulled off the drag racing equivalent of a walk-off home run with the holeshot to get the win with a 7.40 to his opponents quicker 7.38.
