The illustrious Pro Street Motorcycle six-second club, which only gained its first member last fall and its second a few weeks later, doubled its membership over the weekend as a pair of Pro Street riders powered their way to the magical mark during the MIRock Fast by Gast Spring Nationals at the always-quick Maryland International Raceway.
During testing on Friday prior to the opening round of qualifying, Rodney Williford rode his Williford Racing turbocharged Suzuki Hayabusa to a lap of 6.97 seconds, setting the stage for a record-setting day of qualifying. Proving the run was no fluke, Williford clocked an even quicker 6.95 at 204.73 miles per hour during the second session to officially enter his name into the six-second club as the third rider to accomplish the feat. Williford also recorded a personal best 6.941 in the first round of eliminations.
Fellow Pro Street frontrunner Joey Gladstone poked and prodded at the six-second zone all weekend long, qualifying third with a 7.03 and running 7.06 in round one and 7.11 in round two. But in the semifinals, opposite of Bud yoder, Gladstone cranked off the first “six” of his Pro Street career – a 6.994 at 211.23 miles per hour – to become the fourth member of the exclusive club. Gladstone put an exclamation point on the big run by winning the event over Williford, but no doubt the six-second time slip was the highlight of his weekend in Maryland.
Pro Street bikes are street legal, 68-inch long motorcycles without wheelie bars pushing 600 horsepower to the ground on a DOT tire.
