In 1968 Ford unleashed a purposed-built racer on the world, and the record books have never been the same. Some 50 years later the company’s performance division will celebrate this golden anniversary with a limited run of 2018 Cobra Jet Mustangs legal for racing in NHRA, NMCA, and NMRA classes.

Packing projected mid-8-second/150-MPH potential courtesy of a supercharged 5.2-liter engine, a robust drivetrain, and a drag-ready suspension, Ford Performance promises this next-gen Cobra Jet will be its quickest straight-line pony yet.
Ford Performance only shared one teaser rendering of the 50th anniversary CJ, but closer inspection reveals an airy grille, a cowl-induction hood, aerodynamic hood pins, and a familiar 2018 Mustang fascia. The grille wears a 50th anniversary badge.
