The latest craze sweeping the nation is no-prep, street style-racing in a controlled environment. It’s the ‘feel’ of racing on the street without having the dangers of the street — tickets, impound, jail time, or even worse. With many racers looking for facilities to attend and enjoy the sport of drag racing, numerous venues, from sports stadiums to NASCAR tracks, have opened their doors for competitive drag racing. The latter, of course, have been contesting races on the pit road of their world-class oval racing complexes.

A few months ago, Roadkill Nights did this very thing for the first time at Kansas Speedway in Kansas City and had over 100 cars come to race and over 10,000 spectators file through the tunnel to see this unique. Soon afterwards, many people got to talking and wanted to put together another event of the same style at Kansas Speedway; with that, the WYCO Racing ‘Operation Octane’ event was born.

The track was setup once again and there was plenty of competition for the fans to enjoy. As everyone expects at a no-prep drag racing event, there’s always a possibility for carnage. While neither of the drivers in these two videos collected the other car or did serious damage to their own cars, they definitely had a ‘pucker up’ moment behind the wheel of their classic Chevrolets.

Both cars overpowered the under-prepped asphalt surface and begin to skate around, all while staying on the loud pedal to try and get the victory. The supercharged Camaro, with more power than the road was capable of, was out of shape from the release of the transbrake while the classic Nova ran into trouble a little farther down track. Both drivers had a handful of the steering wheel to keep their hot rods off the inside retaining wall and the other cars, but they made for quite the highlight reel in doing so!
