There are plenty of words you could use to describe Street Outlaws No Prep Kings (NPK) star “Disco Dean” Karns, subtle would totally not be one of them. Dean’s latest NPK ride, a 1978 Pontiac Trans Am, is more pink, and more over the top than his CTS-V that’s been his whip for the past several years.
The Trans Am that Dean procured started life as a Dan Page-built chassis. After Dean acquired the car, he took it to Larry Houck at Houck Fab to undergo a massive transformation. Houck shortened the 4-link bars, added long-throw front struts, changed the seating position, modified the transmission tunnel so it could be changed in the car, mounted the Trans Am body, and much more.
The greatest car reveal in the history of car reveals…
For horsepower, Dean is sticking with his 521 cubic-inch Brand Anderson-based Hemi mill that’s built by Tim Brown at BRS Engine Service. On top of the engine, you’ll find a rowdy PSI C-rotor screw blower that’s stuffing boost into the engine. A Rossler transmission and Abruzzi torque converter send the horsepower back to the Fab 9 rearend that’s filled with Moser Engineering parts. The Trans Am will roll on Race Star wheels and Goodyear rubber once race season starts.
Let’s talk about the paint, because Jim Boitnoitt at Boitnoitt Customs Inc. outdid himself on Dean’s Pontiac. The headlights, grill, and front trim aren’t stickers, that’s paint laid down by Boitnoitt. Dean wanted the screaming chicken on the hood to be unique and Boitnoitt delivered. The iconic bird is painted in corrugated gold leaf and accented by some iconic Pontiac blue paint. Then you have the T-tops, they look so real you have to physically touch before you realize they’re painted on.
“There’s a lot of people that helped make this build happen and they need credit.
