The World Cup Finals (WCF) is one of the last big events that run radial cars the full quarter-mile. Each year, you’ll find an all-star cast of small-tire racers that make the journey to Maryland International Raceway to compete at the WCF and maybe set a record.
This year at the WCF, Manny Buginga and Don Burton added their names to the radial record books by putting up some insane numbers. Buginga smashed the overall quarter-mile radial tire record with a 5.759-second pass at over 228 MPH. Burton became the first person to ever make a 5-second pass on a Mickey Thompson 275 radial tire with his 5.881-second blast down the track at nearly 229 MPH. Buginga and Burton’s Mustangs used Pro Line Racing powerplants, FuelTech ECUs, and superchargers from ProCharger to make these historic passes.
