Fiscus/Klugger Racing Set To Debut New Radial Vs. World Mustang

For the last several years, we’ve watched Kevin Fiscus and Josh Klugger ascend the racing ranks, from the old NMRA Drag Radial class into Radial Vs. The World and now their most recent exploits into the super-competitive NHRA Pro Mod ranks. While they’ve been campaigning their Pro Mod, they’ve also been working on a new Radial Vs. The World Mustang, which will use a chassis supplied by none other than Racecraft Inc. in Minnesota with a number of features designed to take it to the front of the pack.

“When we bought the Pro Mod car, we had plans to split the driving duties 50-50, one of us was going to run NHRA and the other was going to run ADRL. At the time we bought the car we didn’t know anything about grade points. Whoever was going to drive had to commit to the whole series and I just couldn’t do it. My business has absolutely exploded, and I have a sixteen month-old son, and just can’t commit to the time required,” Klugger says.

Next year, Klugger will drive the Pro Mod in NMCA to get his grade points while Fiscus will campaign this car in the NMCA’s Radial Wars field — with an eye on the team adding a second Pro Mod after that and going NHRA racing in the following season.

For the rest of this season, Klugger will be in the seat of this state-of-the-art machine in the NMCA’s Radial Wars class along with the other large events like Duck X Productions’ races and anywhere else it will fit. The car is currently in the paint booth at Racecraft and will be progressing to final assembly in the next few weeks.

The car, unlike most in the RvW class, will use a stock suspension featuring nearly every top-shelf part in the Racecraft catalog and a near-duplicate of the powertrain in the Pro Mod. A Pro Line Racing 481X powerplant running on methanol will be in between the framerails, stuffed full of boost from a pair of Precision Turbo 98mm turbochargers and backed by a Proformance Racing Transmissions Turbo Glide transmission and Pro Torque torque converter.

A BigStuff3 engine management system will be on board along with one of Hyperaktive Performance Solutions‘ Hyperkontrol Boost Management systems to control the expected 3,000-plus horsepower. Menscer Motorsports shocks and struts are onboard to control the suspension, along with Strange Engineering carbon-fiber brakes, a Racepak data acquisition system, and many other parts you’d expect on a machine of this caliber.

The body has a complete offering of carbon-fiber parts from the Schoneck Composites catalog, and Klugger says it will come in as one of the lightest cars in the class. They also get a 100 pound weight break for using the stock suspension, and they fully expect to run well into the 240 MPH range when the chance comes to run the car out the back door on the full quarter-mile.

The car wears a full carbon-fiber belly pan to aid in aerodynamics, and Klugger feels that it’ll be worth a full three miles per hour in the quarter-mile. “The goal for the car is to run it out the back this year, and if everything gets done in time we plan to hit one or two of the end-of-year NMCA races, South Georgia, and the local races where it fits. We plan to put 100 passes on it this year,” says Klugger.

No program like this would be complete without the help of many people — both on the Pro Mod and the upcoming Radial car. “We have a lot of guys that help us out. Kenny Markwich, Chris Heffner, Jason Riggs, and especially Dave from Proformance Racing Transmissions, who helps us at every NHRA race,” explains Klugger.

Given the team’s past performances, we have no doubt that we’ll be seeing this fantastic piece at the front of the pack in no time. We look forward to seeing it on the far side of the camera lens!
