Audi’s market is luxury vehicles that are beautiful and full of refined options that enhance the owner’s driving experience. So, seeing an Audi R8 at the dragstrip isn’t a regular occurrence, and if you see one that’s running single digits at the track, that’s extremely rare. Heffner Performance’s 2017 twin-turbo R8 looks like any other Audi you might see at the country club, but this one can rip off 8-second passes all day long.
Jason Heffner and the team at Heffner Performance have been turning exotic and luxury cars into high-performance monsters since 1998. Each vehicle they modify or build maintains its stunning looks, drives like stock, and makes ludicrous levels of horsepower.
The Audi R8 in this video from Precision Turbo & Engine is the Heffner Performance shop car. The engine still sports all of its stock internals, but everything around it has been upgraded considerably. Heffner Performance added one of its custom intake manifolds and turbo kits to the engine that works with a pair of Precision PT6466 turbos. The Audi runs on pump E85 and has flex-fuel options so it can run on different fuels. A MoTeC engine management system controls the Audi and is tuned by Heffner Performance. Jason states in the video that based on the trap speed, he thinks the R8 makes 1,400 horsepower to the tires.
Chances are you’d walk right past this R8 without giving it a second look, or guessing that it has run a best of 8.32 at 173 MPH at the track. German luxury vehicles might not be for everyone, but you have to admit those are some impressive numbers for a car that gets driven on the street.
