Whoops! Rookie Driver Hits Wall In Brand New Dodge Challenger

It’s crazy to think that you can walk into a Chevrolet, Dodge, or Ford dealership and drive a car, truck, or SUV off the lot that’s making over 500 horsepower with a warranty. While it’s become easier to get a high-horsepower modern muscle car, it hasn’t become any easier to control that power if you don’t know what you’re doing. The unfortunate individual in this video learned that lesson the hard way behind the wheel of a Challenger that was still rocking a set of temporary tags.

One of the greatest things about drag racing is how easy it really is to get involved in the sport. All you need to do is go to a local track, buy a tech card, and you can start making passes, provided your vehicle meets the basic safety requirements. Where that can become a problem is when you have a racer whose skill level doesn’t match the amount of horsepower his or her vehicle is making.

In this video from Lookout Racing, we see the perfect example of what happens when someone overdrives a car during a run. This video was shot at Texas’ famous Yello Belly Dragstrip, a well-known outlaw drag strip where anything can and usually does happen. It becomes clear early on that this is the driver’s first time at the drag strip when he has some issues staging the car.

The cameraman and the starting line crowd coach him on how to stage and launch the car, but after the tree drops, the driver’s story turns from a comedy to a tragedy in a hurry. The driver basically does a rolling burnout, loses control of the Challenger, and smacks the wall, all before the 330-foot block. What adds insult to injury are the temporary tags on the car, and the fact the impact with the wall was large enough it set off the Challenger’s airbags. Needless to say, he’s going to have a hard time explaining this one to the insurance company.
