MOMS Racing Mustang Series Releases 2013 Schedule

[1]Before there was an NMRA, a World Ford Challenge, or even a Fun Ford Weekend, there was MOMS, the original Mustang on Mustang Shootout racing series. We’ve covered MOMS here before [2], and 2013 Marks the 20th anniversary of the New York based series.

MOMS released their schedule for the upcoming race season with five events scheduled for the year. MOMS offers six heads-up classes ranging from street oriented, to back-halved power adder machines. All cars however, are limited to either a modular or small block Ford based engine, and full tube chassis cars are not allowed. There’s never been a seven second pass at a MOMS event, but the time slips have dropped every year, and we’d say 2013 looks as though it could be the year for the first seven in MOMS history.

There are no cash awards, only trophies, ancillary prizes, and perhaps most importantly, bragging rights. It’s a pro-tree, street race-style shootout designed to bring racers in from the streets and give them a safe place to run.

Once again, Empire Dragway in Lancaster, NY will be the home for MOMS racing. As usual, it’s all non-profit, with all the money reinvested in operating costs, prizes, and trophies for the racers. There’s one event scheduled every month, from May through September, giving competitors an entire summer of heads-up racing fun.

The five dates for 2013 are:

Over the years MOMS has played an often untold role in launching the careers of some of street car and Mustang drag racing’s biggest names. We’ll be interested to see who shows up this year and how fast the cars will go.
