From drag racing to road racing, offroad vehicles to motorcycles, JRi Shocks is among the industry leaders in high performance suspension systems, with their hand in a number of high-profile projects and underneath some of the baddest race machinery in the world. In the sport of drag racing, JRi is best known for their their involvement in the NHRA Pro Stock ranks and in Pro Modified, but in 2014, their engineering and development team has been working to develop a true entry-level product with their top-shelf quality built in, and the result, seen here at the PRI Show, is the new Sportsman Series double adjustable shock.
This new shock is largely targeted at the 8.90 and 9.90 index sportsman racers and bracket racers, with a focus on quality that meets a specific price point.
“At this level of competition, price point is often more important than the quality of the part, but our goal was to deliver a very quality shock at an attractive price to the grass roots racers. We’ve done a lot of testing with it on some customer cars, and more expensive shocks have actually come off in favor of these,” says JRi’s Pete Brower.
The Sportsman Series shock is fully double-adjustable, meaning each circuit — compression and rebound — is adjusted completely separate of the other, with neither effecting the other in operation. The shock body and caps are made from 6061 aluminum and the shaft is chrome-steel, while internally, the piston and separator piston are aluminum, with the rebound-side inner shaft made of steel. “It’s all the same stuff we put in our high-end shocks, but packaged into a more affordable piece,” said Steve Jessup, the lead Design Engineer behind the Sportsman Series shock.
