The Pro Modified ranks, which are already an international affair with racers hailing from Canada, Australia, and the Middle East, will soon to gain another competitor from abroad, as Brazilian native Sidnei “Grando” Frigo has announced that he will debut in the category later this year, at the controls of a brand new Chevrolet C7 Corvette, which is already well under construction.
Frigo’s Corvette, which will compete in the PDRA Pro Boost category, will receive horsepower and assistance from Eric Dillard and company at ProLine Racing, with a twin-turbo Hemi motor set to slide between the framerails. The car will also feature some components from Frigo’s native land in the form of a FuelTech FT500 engine management system, which was developed in Brazil and is now used by nearly all of ProLine’s customers.
The Itatiba, Sau Paulo resident first appeared in the United States in the Top Alcohol Dragster category with the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, where he made history in 201 by becoming the first Brazilian in history to win an NHRA national event with his triumph in Charlotte. a year later, he finished in the top 10 nationally, before stepping up to Top Fuel in 2013, where he’s competed on a part-time basis since.
Frigo is still committed to competing in Top Fuel, but with the demands of business back home in Brazil, he and his team haven’t had the necessary time to prepare and test to compete at the level they’d like to this point in the season.
