Cecil County Dragway Announces New “Top 10 List” Street Car Shootout

RD5A6844

Like it or not, Street Outlaws mania is sweeping the sport of drag racing, and Oklahoma City’s revered “Top 10 List” — the very focal point of the reality show on the Discovery Channel — has become widely adopted in other locales around the country, including Texas and Florida. The latest to jump onboard the street-car-on-street-car crime movement is Marylands Cecil County Dragway, whose very own Jim Halsey revealed today the Tri-State Fastest Street Car Challenge, which will operate much in the same way the 405’s “List” works — only on a real race track, and with legit street cars.

RD5A6818The jist of the new shootout format is that the cars must be truly street legal and street-driven. The cars have to be tagged and insured, and must be driven in the gate. Rules are otherwise at a minimum, as four and six-cylinder cars are allowed to run at no minimum weight, and small and big blocks have a single, all-encompassing weight limit. One can run any power adder they choose — but only one. The cars have to be driven to the lanes and the starting line and back from the run, and if one truly wishes to question the legality of an opponents car, they can request a “road trip challenge” that puts the racer in questions’ machine to the test — think Street Outlaws meets the old school Memphis Fastest Street Car Shootouts with their pre-race cruise.

From the opening qualifying event on June 19th, a “Top 10 List” ala Street Outlaws will be drawn up, and the challenges for the list and the leapfrogging within it can commence, with events to be held on Wednesday nights and select Friday nights at what is one of the finest racing facilities in the country, right in a hotbed of small-tire and street car racing. With Halsey’s promotional track record, this deal could get interesting, and the Dragzine team just might make the trip to check it all out!

Complete rules and regulations:

1. Tagged and Insured cars and trucks only
2. 4 and 6 cylinder no minimum weight
3. Small Blocks 2800lbs
4. Big Blocks 3000lbs
5. Cars will be scaled immediately after a run
6. Any single power adder permitted
7. ALL cars must be driven in the gate
8. ALL cars must be driven to the staging lanes and from the end of the run to the scales and into the pits. Towing is grounds for disqualification.
9. Instant green tree, 1/8th mile finish line, no time on scoreboards and no time slips. If you leave before the green it is a loss
10. Cecil County Dragway will compile the top ten list based on performances on June 19th. You must pre-register for the June 19th qualifying event. Pre-register at the County Speed and Race Fuels building. Fee must be paid upon registration. Registration limited to 40 entries and will begin on Friday June 12th at 6pm
11. Minimum wager $75 and maximum wager $500. If the two parties cannot agree on a wager amount the race master will set the amount based on the amounts being negotiated. Refusal to race will be considered a loss. All monies to be handled by the race master
12. You can only challenge the position above you. If you are not on the list you can only challenge the 10th position
13. If you are challenged to a race and claim to be broken you will have 10 days to make the race or it will be considered a loss. If you break during a run including the burnout it will be considered a loss
14. All challenges must go through the race master
15. Road trip challenge: If you feel that your competitor is not a true “street” car you may challenge them to a road trip. The road trip challenge must go through the race master. Both vehicles will then be required to make the road trip. The road trip will be between 4 and 10 miles long and you will have a time limit set on how long you will have to complete the road trip. Once you complete the road trip you will be required to make your run without refueling and without cool down time. If you refuse to take the road trip you will be removed from the list, everyone below your position will move up one and the #10 spot will be filled by a qualifying run-off on a selected race night
16. Races will be held on any Wednesday night and selected Friday nights
17. Entry fee for the list qualifying is $20 in addition to the normal gate fees. Challenge fee is $20 in addition to the amount wagered
