Clint Hairston’s Pro Mod Team Moving To Big Block Twin-Turbo Combo

Despite their peers bringing ever-larger engines to the rodeo over the last several years, California native Clint Hairston and the Hairston Motorsports team have steadily plugged away at their small block, twin-turbocharged engine combination that, while on paper at a disadvantage, has continued to serve them admirably. But with performances in the NMCA Pro Mod class consistently dipping into the 5.80’s, the Hairston team, backed by family-owned Pertronix Performance Products — which boasts the Doug’s Headers, Patriot Exhaust, JBA Exhaust, and a number of other exhaust and ignition brands — will be growing their program, literally, with an all-new big block Chevrolet engine combination for 2015.

DSC_5568Hairston has, impressively enough, been in the 5.90’s on several occasions with the sub-400 cubic inch small block Chevrolet in the teams’ bright orange Pontiac GTO, but this season, will have 5.80’s on the radar after the switch to a 526 cubic inch big block combination based on a five-inch bore space block, which will be built by Hairston’s brother and crew chief, Jake Hairston.

Interestingly, when Jake isn’t at the NMCA events assisting Clint and father, Jim, with the GTO, he’s a full-time engine builder at Elite Motorsports in Oklahoma — the very same Elite Motorsports that fields Erica Enders-Stevens’ NHRA Pro Stock car and provides power for other racers in the class. With that kind of brainpower behind the build, you can be sure that Hairston won’t be lacking a thing in the horsepower department this season. Add in that legendary turbo guru Kenny Duttweiler will be providing support and assistance with the program and you have quite a recipe.

Hairston Motorsports and their Pertronix-backed GTO will once again be contesting the NMCA Muscle Car Nationals Series in 2015 — where they finished fifth in the Pro Mod points a year ago — along with the Street Car Super Nationals in Las Vegas in the fall.
