You might remember our feature on Rick Steinke’s awesome ’67 Chevelle Malibu, and if you don’t you should click the link and read all about it. We heard from Rick on Wednesday morning, and he wanted to update us on how his racing season has started off so far. Rick decided to race in the 8.50 Index class at Cecil County Raceway’s Street Car Shoot Out series on April 6th and had a pretty good showing.
“I decided to stick with the 8.50 index class rather then be a class filler in Ultra Street, and it turned out to be a good move. First pass off the trailer, which was also the first pass of 2013, was an 8.525 at 158 MPH. I added .5 PSI via the AMS-1000 and picked up the No. 1 qualifier spot with a 8.501 at 159.40 MPH,” he said. Dead on with a one, from a car that hadn’t moved in months, with a driver who spent the majority of the winter enjoying holiday food? We’d say Rick’s on the right track.

But that’s not all – his weekend continued to be a success of sorts. “I made it to the semifinal, after winning first and second round on the brakes. However, in the second round win, I knocked five teeth off the ring gear. The car was still moving under its own power, but given the noises it was making, I only staged the car to get the points and round money,” explained Rick. Not a bad showing for the first time out after a long Northeast winter, and we’re sure he’ll be back to the track in no time. Rick’s car has been one of our favorites since the first time we saw it, and we can’t wait to see how the rest of his season goes.
