In the 1940’s, Howard Johansen founded Howard’s Power & Racing Equipment, which turned into Howards Cams. The company was run by Jerry Johansen (Howard’s son) until 1985, and today, Howards Cams is based in Oshkosh, Wisconsin alongside sister company Competition Products.
Howards Cams boasts a long history in the racing industry; from the Howard Cams Rattler and Howard Cams Special Top Fuel cars from the early days of the company’s existence to partnerships with old-school racers Jack Chrisman and Larry Dixon, Sr. for development projects, over the years the company has developed numerous valvetrain products that placed them at the head of the field. With their move to Wisconsin in 1998, Howards Cams took on “& Racing Components” as part of the company name and began building on that past success, manufacturing American-made forged steel connecting rods and crankshafts along with forged 2618 aluminum pistons and many other components in the new facility. Using the latest CNC machinery, they have expanded their product line over the last several years and boast camshaft grinds for most domestic applications as well as many others.
Competition Products was founded in 1970 with a singular goal — to provide titanium valve retainers and valve springs to the industry. In the years since, they’ve added hundreds of other products and now function as one of the largest dealers for many of the performance industry’s most well-known brands, like ARP, B&M, Dart, Edelbrock, F.A.S.T., Lunati, and Manley among others.
Their slogan is “Providing the hardcore engine parts you want since 1970”, and if their vendor list is any indication, they back that slogan up.
We look forward to working with both of these great companies as part of the Power Automedia team!
