JPC Breaks 9-Second Barrier With Stock Coyote Engine!

It was only a matter of time. The rumors have been flying around the internet about post season testing in less-than-legal Coyote Stock trim, and everyone has been wondering how fast can a production type engine really go on a Mustang with stock style suspension. We’d already seen mid 10’s in full NMRA Coyote Stock legal trim, rumors of testing with less weight, a tune and more fuel post season have now been confirmed.

Two time slips back up the numbers

Justin Burcham behind the wheel of the JPC Racing/Joe Marini Coyote Stock machine has just done something many thought was impossible without a power adder. Running higher octane racing fuel as well as about 350 pounds lighter than is allowed under NMRA guidelines, plus what could only be described an aggressive tune, the Mustang GT made history in what has been dubbed a Coyote Stock Mustang in “Outlaw” trim.

Rumor has it that in this form the sealed crate engine is cranking out horsepower numbers in the 500 range, though we have yet to see the actual dyno sheets to confirm it. The Coyote was no doubt howling a tune of 7,500 plus RPM of melodious racket as the car tripped the top end timers with a 9.96 at 133.38 MPH. The feat occurred Sunday November fourth at the World Cup Finals, Import vs Domestic where Burcham qualified number one in the all motor class.

Reports on the JPC Facebook page are also saying this run was made with tire spin and short shifting, which would indicate that there are probably faster ET’s to be found in this trim. Regardless the haters have already fired up their keyboards and are quick to point out that “It’s not a stock car” as well as most of the other usual whining that we see whenever someone manages to pull off such an amazing accomplishment.

The only detriment to such a remarkable achievement will be the undoubted closer scrutiny by tech officials of this car and any others waving the JPC banner in NMRA Coyote stock for 2013. Still it’s undeniable, JPC was the first to make it into the 9’s with a stock sealed crate engine. We can’t think of anything short of an open wheel race car that has been able to do something like this in the past.

The nine second mark has been eclipsed, the Coyote Stock drag racing world is on notice. The question now is how close will they get next year. While this is all good fun for the JPC guys, there is certainly invaluable data to take away from any post season testing, and knowing Burcham and his crew we’re they’ll find a way to utilize what they’ve learned and apply to next season. We can’t wait for March to get here.
