MMR Racing Unveils New 5.4L Twin-Turbo GT500 Pro Street Entry

The Modular Mustang Racing clan has been a regular fixture on the Pacific Street Car Association trail in recent years with their familiar Outlaw 10.5 Mustang driven by MMR owner Mark Luton, who has set multiple Modular-powered world records behind the wheel of the awesome twin-turbo machine. And now, MMR is set to tackle another challenge with its newest entry that’s slated for the Pro classes in the PSCA, NMCA, and possibly NHRA competition.

The new Jerry Haas-built, full tube chassis Ford Mustang GT500 will carry backing from Manley Performance, Accel EFI, and BorgWarner, with power coming from a 5.4L Ford Modular DOHC bullet with twin BorgWarner AirWerks 88mm turbochargers built by MMR, that will run on racing gas initially with a switch to Methanol expected in the seasons to come. The powerplant, which is very similar to that which carried the Outlaw 10.5 car to a record 6.99 on 10.5W slicks, is backed by a Rossler Turbo 400 pushed through a Pro Torque converter and managed by an Accel EFI unit.

PSCA regular and multi-time record holder Greg-Seth Hunter will pilot the killer new ride, while Luton will remain at the controls of the Outlaw 10.5 machine.

“I am looking forward to testing the new car; we feel it will be a great test bed for some of the new products we have been working on and a rolling billboard for our company and sponsors,” said Hunter, who is the head engine builder at MMR.

Getting a head start on next season, MMR is expected to debut the new Mustang at the PSCA Street Car Supernationals in Las Vegas on November 17-20, where the aim is to put it into the low six-second zone and chip away at the performance from there.

“We have a long road ahead of us, but if racing at this level was easy everyone would be doing it,” explained Luton. “We have great respect for the racers and teams in this class and the achievements they have made.”
