Loyal fans of the Ford and General Motors brands have long had a traveling circuit to call their own, collectively bringing together racers, manufacturers, and fans of their beloved brands in events that capture the national spotlight. In 2012, the diehard Mopar crowd, certainly not without a number of dedicated events across the country already, will have a new venue in which to compete.
On Saturday, May 19, the Texas Motorplex will officially launch the inaugural event in the newly-announced Mega Mopar Action Series, which is operated by the very same group of national event track owners that acquired and manage the Super Chevy Show and the resurrected Fun Ford Weekend series. These events will naturally feature drag racing, car show, and a swap meet for fans of the Dodge, Chrysler, and Plymouth brands.
In its inaugural season, the Mega Mopar Action Series will host four events, beginning in Dallas before moving on to the mile-high city of Denver to the Bandimere Speedway (Sunday June 3), followed by a stop at the Maple Grove Raceway in Reading, Pa. a week later (June 9-10), and concluding at the Virginia Motorsports Park near Dinwiddie, Va. (September 22-23).
Mopar Action Magazine has played an extensive role in the development of the Mega Mopar Action Series.
“We had the opportunity to work with Lex Dudas at Maple Grove Raceway in 2011 to put on a Mopar Action branded event, which was a great success,” said Mopar Action’s Advertising Director, Brett Underwood. “The opportunity to work with more of the national caliber tracks to operate a series tied to the publication is very exciting for our readers and advertisers.”
Each of the four tracks hosting events this season have held Mopar-only events in the past, including the Texas Motorplex, the site of “Mopars at the Motorplex” for the last 15 years. Contingent upon the success of the national series in its first year, the plan is double or even triple the number of events in 2013, possibly equaling the 12 events apiece that the Super Chevy Show and Fun Ford Weekend currently host.
