In an effort to enhance NHRA Stock and Super Stock Class Racing, a new program will go into effect for the 2011 NHRA Lucas Oil Series season. The normal race eliminations will be the same, just the class eliminations (class run-offs) will change. The difference will be at select national events when NHRA runs class eliminations.
Class eliminations for Stock and Super Stock will held at 9 NHRA National events and 3 Jeg’s NHRA SportsNationals events. Trophies will be awarded to each class winner at all 12 events. Contingency payouts will be awarded at only 4 of these events: the Mac Tools U.S. Nationals presented by Lucas Oil in Indianapolis and the three JEGS NHRA SportsNationals events. The contingency payouts at those four events will be a minimum of $100 per posting. That is double the minimum postings in 2010. In 2010, Class run-offs were contested at 10 National events for both of these classes. So that is 4 events with double contingency payout and 2 additional events with class eliminations. Also new for 2011 class eliminations, classes with only one car will be combined into a stick combo class and an automatic combo class.
Classes with less than 2 cars will fall into the “combo classes”. Eliminations for the combo classes will utilize a handicap start with no breakout. The car that crosses the finish line first in each combo class-eliminations run will be declared the winner. This will make it more difficult to come home with a wally for many racers. A bonus points program will be in place for the 8 event that are “non-paying” class eliminators.
The bonus program will award season ending contingency payouts and special Wally trophies to each of the four National Class Performer Award winners. They will be the racers that accumulate the most points from each of these class groupings: Super Stock Automatic, Super Stock Manual, Stock Automatic, and Stock Manual. Contingency payout will be a minimum of $500 per posting from each sponsor.
