Ron Hammel Dies at 81, Friends to Celebrate His Life with Event

Few people can claim accomplishments in the automotive industry like Ron Hammel. A pioneer in the early days of hot rodding, Hammel went on to open company 10,000 RPM in 1964 where he paved the road for the industry in the areas of nitrous oxide systems and light-weight clutches. A true great in the industry, Hammel unfortunately lost his battle with cancer in early July. Our condolences go out to his family and friends, who will be opening up a celebration of life ceremony to the public next month, according to Racing West.

Hammel has been a major part of the automotive industry for decades, leading the way in the racing community with some of the first nitrous power enhancement systems and light-weight clutches on the market. Just recently, Hammel’s 10,000RPM Inc. introduced their lightest racing clutch assemblies that continue to give racers the winning edge against their competition. Hammel also raced himself, as well as acted as a crew chief, sponsor and consultant for many Top Fuel, Bonneville Land Speed and NASCAR teams in his life.

On July 6th, Hammel lost his long battle with prostate cancer at the age of 81. He is survived by his younger brother, son, daughter and three grandchildren. Hammel’s daughter, Becky Hammel worked along side her father for the past 20 years and will continue to run 10,000 RPM in his absence.

To honor the life of this automotive great, Hammel’s family and friends have planned a celebration at the 10,000 RPM Racing Center in Lancaster, California on September 15th. The event will run from 2pm until dark and feature a car show, live bands and barbeque.

Hammel was an integral part of the automotive industry and he will be sadly missed. If you’re in the Lancaster area on September 15th, be sure to stop by Hammel’s celebration of life event, pay your respects and enjoy the community that Hammel so loved and made a living in.
