With the racing season in full swing, Flying A Motorsports is featuring this toterhome for a racer looking for a great deal on a Sterling chassis with a United Specialties conversion. “This truck has very few miles on the odometer,” Flying A’s Alan Cape says. “It only has 83,000 miles on the truck, which is super-low mileage for a 2001 model.”
This rig features a 17-foot toter conversion from United Specialties. The photo series shows the excellent shape of the interior.

A 3126 CAT engine powers the Sterling truck. Alan does tell us that this is a 275 horsepower model. “Caterpillar engines have been around for a very long time. These engines are used in everything from fire trucks to dump trucks to big boats. You name it; these engines see use worldwide. They are not a big power diesel, but they are efficient. It will get your race operation to the track, just not at 80 to 90 mph.”
We asked Alan about the sleeping arrangements. "It will sleep four to five comfortably between the overhead bunk, a jackknife couch, plus the dinette breaks down into a little sleeper," Cape adds. "The interior is well laid out for a tight toterhome. There is a single bowl sink, LP-gas Dometic RV-style refrigerator and Freezer, LP water heater, LP furnace, and air conditioning unit."
The CAT power plant is mated to an autoshift transmission. For those not fully versed in truck trans terminology, an autoshift differs from an actual automatic trans. It is a computer controlled manual transmission which operates all up and downshifting, while you still use a clutch for stopping and starting. It is a proven transmission used on countless working trucks across the U.S. and abroad.
A Sony Xplod AM / FM / CD Player is connected to a DHS surround sound system. There is also a Quasar television and VHS player for those rainy days at the ‘strip.
The living quarters exit to the toterhome bed where a ball-hitch style coupler is ready to hook up to your trailer. Make sure to view all of the images right here or in the living quarters. It is easy to observe the well-kept condition of this toter visually.
A full bathroom with shower makes up the remaining amenities. Though not equipped with a stove cooktop, it does have the always handy built-in microwave.
