Trying to figure out how to shave off time your ET at the drag strip can be both a frustrating and rewarding experience at the same time. Making changes that have no effect on the car can make your best efforts feel wasted, but then things finally click. Small-block nitrous wizard Ron Rhodes had been trying many things with his fearsome Induction Solutions nitrous-fed Camaro with no luck, until everything came together with a blistering 4.41 pass recently at Cecil County Dragway.
Rhodes had recently been dealing with some issues in his combination, and finally had the breakthrough that he was looking for. “All the changes we had been making really didn’t do anything, but then all the sudden things came together. We’ve been trying new things to run better earlier in the run … that’s where I picked it all up at,” Rhodes says.
In the first qualifier at the Cecil County, Rhodes went a healthy and new personal best 4.43 without any issues. With that success in the first session, he decided to step things up a bit and ripped off a 4.41 at 158 mph. That pass was not only another personal best, it reset the small-block nitrous record for the X275 class.
“Everything with the tune-up in the Induction Solutions X275 fogger kit on the BES Racing engines powerplant, including the other changes finally clicked; it wasn’t just one thing. Along with the help from my other sponsors Calvert Racing, TRZ Motorsports, NLR Systems, PTC, Santhuff Suspension, MacFab Beadlocks, Hutch’s Transmissions, Ultra Carbon, Mickey Thompson, DeVane Carburetors, VP Racing Fuels and Spaghetti Menders, things really worked out with the adjustments we made as a whole,” Rhodes says.
