Drag Racing legend Roy Hill was at the wheel of a 2010 Cobra Jet this past weekend at the IHRA Spring Nitro Jam at Rockingham Dragway. During the first round of qualifying he laid down an impressive run of 8.839 et at over 150 mph. The run was 1.361 seconds under the IHRA SS/BA index of 10.20 seconds and the pass was good enough to put Hill at the top of the 47 car Super Stock field. Due to the odd amount of cars in the class, the #1 qualifying spot gave him a bye run in the first round.

In the first round bye run, Hill ran the 1320 all out and timed in at a 8.825 @ 154.35 mph. A Sportsman racing fan happened to catch the run on video and posted it on You Tube. The pass is a text book run and considering Roy runs his own drag racing school it shows he can step into any type of car and be fast. The run is also impressive considering the Cobra Jet is a factory built car and running on the 30 x 10.5 inch Goodyear slick and stock suspension. Hill would go onto win the second round but lost in the third round to IHRA/NHRA Sportsman heavy hitter Scott Richardson.

Look for Roy Hill to make more events in the 2010 Cobra Jet and we’ve also heard through the grapevine that Bruton Smith’s daughter, Anna Lisa Smith plans on entering the car in some NHRA National events. We’d love to see the car show up at Indy and battle some of the big block powered 427 Corvettes and typically dominate the SS/BA class.
