Word is making its way around the campfire this week that controversial television producer and show host Rich Christensen of PINKS and PINKS: ALL OUT fame may be headed back to cable television with a new drag racing themed show entitled “Hook.” The latest of Christensen’s innumerable off-the-wall show ideas that he’s conceived over the last couple of years is rumored to take place inside domed, indoor stadiums, where racers will compete in a short, sixty-foot drag race without any sort of traction compound of other track prep.

The indoor concept itself comes off as solid idea, as “Hook” could take advantage of some of the major football and basketball arenas in large markets around the country at any time of the year. However, even the under-informed street racing crowd that comprised PINKS viewership would have to find a less than two-second, sixty-foot squirt of a drag race completely senseless.

Christensen has concocted and even filmed the pilot for a number of shows of late, none of which have been picked up by networks, so we’ll just file this one away in the rumor category until some official word is made public.

Christensen hosted the wildly popular PINKS program from 2005 to 2008, which pitted a pair of racers against one another for pink slips and glory. The show was spun off to PINKS: ALL OUT, a full drag racing event with a made-for -TV twist in 2006, and ran through 2010 before going on a “hiatus” (technical term for being cancelled) after filming its last episode in Phoenix, Az.
