If you think street racing only happens in the United States, think again — it’s a global in a big way. In the United States there is the wildly popular show Street Outlaws, but over on the streets of Sweden there is the Stockholm Top Ten that is just as tough to crack. Don’t think for one second these are just some mildly modified cars, the cars fighting to crash into the top ten are bringing weapons-grade levels of nitrous and giant turbos to take on all comers. The crew from 1320 Video went international recently and captured some insane footage of a contest to make the Stockholm Top Ten. One of the cars vying for that roster spot may look familiar to Dragzine readers, we ran a feature on Johnny “TTR Jompa” Wallin’s nasty boosted Volvo wagon. The other Volvo in the video is rocking a 588 ci big-block Chevy engine with an undisclosed amount of nitrous and sounds insanely rowdy.
When it comes time for these two wagons to square off on the street there is no closed road, just the good old-fashioned chase car road block to give the drivers a clear window to run. The race for the spot had both cars struggling for traction with the nitrous car winning the pedal fest and getting out in front of Wallin’s wagon before the turbo could stretch its legs allowing the nitrous car to get the win.
To make things interesting both drivers decided to run again on the way back for fun to see if the turbo car could even the series. This time both cars got traction and Wallin was able to get the win when his turbo spooled up, but the nitrous car was right on his tail throwing some serious gorilla flames from under the car from a large set of nitrous jets.
So, is it time for the fastest street driven cars from Europe and the United States to square off? We here at Dragzine would love to see the wild possibilities and killer races that could happen!
