Team Z Motorsports Releases Cobra Jet Rear Suspension To The Public

Our friends over at Team Z Motorsports in Michigan have been at the forefront of small-tire Mustang drag-racing suspension development for a long time; their performances in partnership with such racers as Chris Tuten, Brad Edwards, Trace Meyer, and more have them spending most weekends at the track in search of better performance. So when it was time for Ford Racing to develop the Cobra Jet program back in 2008, where better to go than right in their backyard to Team Z?

Team Z owner Dave Zimmerman explains, “We’ve worked with Ford Racing on the development and construction of the Cobra Jet suspension since the beginning. Now that the S197 Cobra Jet program has been completed, we’re able to offer that same suspension system to the general public. But instead of offering the same suspension we built for the Cobra Jet, we’ve redesigned it to include double-adjustable lower control arms, which aren’t legal in NHRA Stock competition – but are everywhere else. The system tested two-tenths better on the track with Ford Racing drivers at the wheel, and we’re proud to be able to offer it to everyone now.”

s197-1The package includes a pair of double-adjustable, TIG-welded chromoly lower control arms complete with high-strength rod ends (these aren’t typical street control arms) along with a pair of TIG-welded lower control arm relocation brackets to provide added bite on the track. The double-adjustable design allows for the fitment of larger tires and more pinion-angle adjustments.

Also included is a bolt-in anti-roll bar that mounts in conjunction with the lower control-arm brackets and features replaceable bronze bushings and links that include high-strength rod ends.

The upper control arm is also double-adjustable, providing easy on-car adjustment, and the bolt-in laser-cut, TIG-welded upper mount features two mounting positions for additional flexibility. A spherical housing bushing is included along with all hardware, and the system is available now by calling Team Z or placing an order on their website. Priced at $879 for the complete kit, this is hard to beat for all you S197 owners out there. The pieces can also be purchased separately – just give them a call!
