For a long time the term “traction control” had a negative connotation. It has become more accepted these days, but just a few years ago there many up in arms over the use of it. It wasn’t until racers started to see the benefit of using traction control that people started to accept it. In this day of no-prep races and the renewed practice of doing the deed on the street, more and more racers are realizing the fact that spinnin’ ain’t winnin’. But today’s modern devices don’t just manage traction. No, they’re capable of becoming an all-in-one system…a “brain” to operate the race car.
Here’s where Davis Technologies has made its name. Its Profiler Wheel Speed Management system, with traction control, has become as popular as the racers that use it. Or should we say some racers have become popular because of the Profiler does for their car’s performance? We’ll go with that. A lot of people can make power, and in a variety of ways. However, making sure all that power gets to the ground in the most efficient manner is the name of the game.
Shannon Davis himself has long been touting the nearly limitless, all-encompassing capabilities of the Profiler, and one racer who has put it to the test is Terry “Legbone” Leggett on his PDRA Pro Extreme Mustang. Davis Technologies set up the Profiler system to control engine timing, the rev limiter, fuel system, shifting, and of course, traction control. In testing during the recent PDRA race in Maryland, Leggett ran a then-track record 3.556 at 212 mph. That is flyin’, and right in the thick of the fastest cars in the Pro Extreme class. Unfortunately, that immediate success didn’t translate into a win for Leggett. He lost in the second round of eliminations to eventual runner-up Badir Ahli from Dubai.
No matter, we’re sure Leggett and Davis Technologies will be back at it with similar performance at the next race.
