That’s right folks, it’s time to start thinking about Hot Rod’s Drag Week again. While the event doesn’t kick off until September 13th, the heavy-hitters are already preparing to show they’ve got the best in the U.S. when it comes to street-driven race cars. While Larry Larson seems to have a stranglehold on the overall event taking the title for the past two years, and nudging his Chevy II consistently into the 6’s since the last event, we don’t want to say he’s got it in the bag as anything can happen – he’ll be tough to beat if he can keep it together.

After the year’s past examples, we know how hard 1,000+ miles in just 5 days can be on a daily driver, nevermind a 7-second pavement pulverizer. 2006 Overall champion and also the 2008 Pro Street Power adder winner Eddie Miller has got his ’73 Duster all sorted out and ready for this year’s Drag Week with his “Grocery Getter.” With undeniably the quickest Mopar on Drag Week for the past couple years, taking the overall title from Larry Larson is a tall order, but Miller is confident that he can dip into the 7’s if the conditions are in his favor. Miller runs a heavily nitrous’ed big block Mopar.
In the street race category, Jeff McConnell and his awesome wheel-standing ’80 Chevy Malibu is looking to come back with a vengeance with an N/A small block 427. Let’s not forget that drag racing isn’t all a spectator sport, think you got what it takes to bring home a Drag Week trophy? With 11 different classes for all styles of rides and awards for various achievements, most everyone can find a class to run in.
