We’ll just come out and admit it right now, NMRA’s Coyote Stock class is one of our favorites. We love all the NMRA classes, but we just can’t get enough of the nearly 8,000 RPM launching, power-shfiting action that these cars provide. The price is right for entering this class as well, making it truly affordable as most racers we talk to have said the car can be built for as little as $25,000 and attending the NMRA schedule on a budget can be done for around $3,000 a season. While those look like big numbers to some there are plenty of other ways to race that cost way more.
What do you do with a Coyote Stock car in-between NMRA races? Especially this year when there’s a gap of 11 weeks in the NMRA schedule between the upcoming NMRA/NMCA Super Bowl and the World Finals in Bowling Green, KY. Tom Borgia, the promoter of the Bluegrass Super Shifters racing series has an idea.
Borgia has teamed up with Thornhill Dragstrip and wants to put on an Outlaw Coyote Stock race on August 2. This is after Borgia’s friend and fellow BGSS racer Jacob Lamb (who also happens to race Coyote Stock) has come out and won two BGSS races this year.
The proposed Outlaw rules would be simple, each car would run the sealed Coyote Stock crate engine as well as the full class rules with a couple of exceptions. Cars can run at 3,000 pounds weight, any fuel will be allowed, and cars can run any tune. This should result in some extremely fast times for these real factory powered hot rods.
Right now Borgia is trying to get word out about the race and gauge interest. We can tell you if he makes it happen, we’ll be there with our camera to capture the action. To sweeten the pot, if the event can pack Thornhill with more than 1,000 spectators, Borgia has said he’ll give a portion of the gate money to the winner of the race. Further if it’s a success they’ll hold a second CS Outlaw Race in September.
We think this is a great way for Coyote Stock racers to get out and test, and maybe win some cash in the late season break. So CS racers it’s up to you now, get in touch with Tom Borgia, and pack Thornhill Dragstrip on August 2.
