Fans of Discovery Channel’s hit street racing series Street Outlaws were introduced to Big Chief’s GTO, better known as “The Crow” a couple of seasons back when Chief launched his run at the No. 1 spot on the famed 405 ‘Top 10 List’. This past season he had the car painted stark white, doing away with the murdered-out black scheme shared by his Midwest Street Cars stablemate, Murder Nova. But before all of that, before the car was actually even a GTO, Justin “Big Chief” Shearer had a flat black, nitrous-huffing LeMans that he proudly drove into battle. It’s the same car as the current Crow, it’s just undergone some major changes!
In this trio of old videos we found, you can clearly see the car hasn’t yet transformed into its current GTO state, and it is actually a great looking car as a LeMans. The first video we found was a dyno video featuring some killer idle time as the nitrous-huffing powerplant warms up to operating temperature. In true street racer fashion, no dyno numbers are shown. In the second video, however, we do get to see some track times! Competing against some pretty serious tube-chassis drag cars that are probably several hundred pounds lighter, Chief makes a valiant effort, running into the 5-teens through the 1/8th, though his competition is clearly quicker, each of them dipping into the 4.8-second range.
Things look a little more familiar in the final clip, as we see Shearer doing a big smoky burnout and launch in what appears to be an industrial complex. He even has Shawn “Murder Nova” Ellington helping him line up The Crow for what we assume is a test pass, somewhere on the streets of Oklahoma City.
While the car has certainly undergone a drastic transformation, it still bears the soul of a Chieftain, as it is pure Pontiac front to back. The car is big, heavy, and makes a ton of power and, at least as far as we know, it still sits atop the 405’s Top 10 List.
