Australian Rob Campisi, whose wicked Ford Mustang we’ve featured here on the digital pages of DRAGZINE in the past, recently became the first turbo car down under to break into the five-second zone, recording a 5.97 at a stout 258 MPH at the Sydney Dragway in Eastern Creek NSW during Round 2 of the NSW Championship Series.

Campisi’s ProComp Electronics and CV Performance-backed Mustang, which is powered by a twin-turbocharged 632- cubic inch Big Block Ford with a Neal’s Transmissions Powerglide, went 4.01 to the eight-mile on it’s way to the five-second blast. Campisi was already the quickest turbo racer in the country with several low six-second runs to his credit, including a 6.06 at 246 MPH just a week ago in Sydney. Incrementals on the run were 1.027, 2.720, 4.018 at 194.18, 5.087, and 5.975 at 254.52.

Thanks to the beauty of technology, Mike Moran, who was the first turbo racer into the fives in the United States, was tuning Campisi’s Mustang via the internet from his home in Detroit, meaning the veteran tuner, engine builder, and racer has had a hand in breaking the five-second barrier on two different continents.
