The ADRL SuperCar Showdown, the revolutionary new heads-up eliminator for factory-built race, muscle, and super cars, debuted at last weekend’s CarSafe Dragpalooza VIII in Houston to great reviews despite a short field of cars – but what it lacked in quantity it made up for in quality.
NHRA sportsman racing standout and past Competition Eliminator World Champion Bo Butner, hailing from Floyds Knobs, Ind., drove his supercharged Ford Mustang Cobra Jet to the first-ever SuperCar Showdown title when he defeated former Pro Stock racer Chris Holbrook in the money round with a 5.86-second elapsed time while Holbrook experienced problems and slowed in the other lane.
Holbrook and Butner had qualified Nos. 1 and 2 in the five-car field – Holbrook’s great 5.75 leading the pack that also included Joseph Teuton, multi-time NHRA world champ Kevin Helms, and David Buckner, all of whom were driving Dodge Challenger Drag Paks.
The ADRL, with longtime television and announcing personality Bret Kepner wielding the mic, put together a spectacular video highlighting the very first SuperCar Showdown event with a behind-the-scenes look at those involved, their experiences, and some great action footage of these awe-inspiring factory racers.
This is a clip you’ll certainly want to check out and we hope to see more great videos like this from the ADRL as the season continues.
