We knew it was only a matter of time before one of the many aftermarket Mustang modifiers across the country got their hands on the new 2013 Shelby GT500. This factory hot rod already makes incredible power off of the assembly line, offering buyers 662 horsepower and 630 ft-lbs of torque. But how far and how fast can the aftermarket take it?

So far, Lethal Performance and John Lund Tuning are showing that some tuning and tires can go a long way on the all new Shelby. In fact this weekend they took their 2013 GT500 to a 9.77 @ 148 mph with barely any modifications. And we’ve got not one, but two videos of this incredible run.

Last week Lethal Performance took their GT500 out for a few runs, coming as close to single digits as you can without hitting them. The Lethal Performance crew turned in a best run of 10.00 at 139 mph. This weekend they were back though, cranking up the boost along with the John Lund Tune and adding some grippy tires for the track.

The result is an astounding 9.77 @ 148 mph, a blisteringly fast run for a car that has had a minimum amount of modification done. Keep in mind, Lethal Performance hasn’t even opened up the engine yet; there is plenty of power left to be pulled out. The question then is, how soon before Lethal hits the 8’s?
